ONE of the world's smallest cinemas has gone green - using a giant solar panel to power its films. The tiny Sol Cinema in Wales is one of the world's smallest movie theatres and runs out of a caravan. It has an usherette, red carpet and can seat eight people.
Projectionist Paul O'Connor, said: "It's just like Dr Who's tardis really - people step inside and it takes them to another world. That's the power of film.  "We are very keen on the movie-going experience, just because it's a tiny cinema doesn't mean you can't have the big screen treatment. "That's why we have a red carpet and an usherette to clip your tickets and show you to your seats. "It's just something that makes it a bit more memorable."

_ The Sol Cinema, built and run by Swansea arts charity Undercurrents, is competing against arts groups from across Britain in this year's Epic Awards.The awards are run by Voluntary Arts, the national development agency for arts participation.

Built in 2010, the Sol Cinema is a mini-movie house powered entirely by the sun.The converted 1960s caravan comes with a red carpet, and usherette.It has a full library of comedy, music videos and short films with various environmental themes.Accommodating eight adults, the tiny theatre has proved very popular at schools and events across Swansea and Wales.

In 2010 the cinema won the Network Wales award for best communications project and was a finalist in the Big Lottery Awards 2011.Cinema projectionist Paul O'Connor said: "We are excited at being a finalist for yet another award. The Sol Cinema is an entertaining and practical example of how we can be using renewable energy.

"We hope the public will vote for us by clicking the green thumbs up for the Epic Award."

An Epic Awards spokesman said the standard of this year's competition was very high, and there would also be a separate, people's choice award.To vote for the Sol Cinema, visit http://epicawards.co.uk/shortlist before 9am on January 16. SOLAR-POWERED cinema has been short-listed to win an award.

Napenergiával működő mozik
A környezetvédelem és kultúra gyakran egy cipőben jár, főleg, ha kiemeljük az ismeretterjesztés szerepét, amihez a film talán az egyik legjobb eszköz. Ugyanezt gondolta a Undercurrents  művészeti csoportosulás lelkes csapata is, akik 2009-ben egy ’60-as évekbeli aprócska lakókocsi átalakításával megalkották a világ legkisebb szolármoziját. A mobilmozi napelemei az elektromos autókban is használt lítium elemeket töltik fel, amik elegendő energiát biztosíthatnak akár 2 napra is, így nem feltétel az állandó napsütés (ami igencsak jól jöhet a ködös Albionban). A moziba 8 felnőtt és 12 gyermek fészkelheti be magát kényelmesen, hogy várja, mikor kezd el peregni a film. A legkisebb ökomozi hírneve persze jóval megelőzte gurulási sebességét és eljutott a The Times-ig és egyéb hírneves magazinokba is. Azonban hozzá kell tenni, hogy habár ő a legkisebb, nem ő volt az első, az ötlet már régebb óta megvalósult.
A jóval nagyobb Groovy Movie Picture House, a világ első napmozija, 1996-ban látta meg  a napvilágot szintén Nagy-Britanniában (hogy miért pont ott és miért nem, mondjuk Spanyolországban, arról egy másik fáma szól). A jóval nagyobb kaliberű, akár 250 embert is bezsúfoló mozi a fenntarthatóság promóciója mellett elsősorban arra törekszik, hogy alternatív és underground filmeket, friss filmeseket és zenekarokat is támogasson. A mozi 100%-ban a nap energiájával működik és akkumulátorai akár 20 óráig is bírják szuflával, emellett a mozi csapata igyekszik a vetítések előtt előadásokat is tartani a zöld energiáról remélve, hogy a fiatalabb célközönség még alkalmasabb a fenntarthatóbb ötletek befogadására.

A brit példa alapján a szintén napos Hollandiában születik meg egy hasonló kezdeményezés Cosymo Solar Cinema néven, ami szintén fesztiválokon, szabad téren és egyenlőre Európa szegleteiben mindenfele mutatja be egyáltalán nem mainstream filmrepertoárját. Olyannyira Európa szerte, hogy kishazánkban Pécsett is naprakészek, mégpedig május 6 és 8 között, így ha valaki fel akar töltődni egy kis napenergiával, irány Európa kulturális fővárosa.
Persze a kérdés jogosan fogalmazódhat meg mindenkiben, hogy miért pont azok az országok aktívabbak a napenergia felhasználásában, ahol valójában alig van, vagy talán pont ezért. Ők jobban értékelik.
